The Basics
Singapore school uniform rules, decoded.
The same five rules cover almost every Singapore school. The variations matter — but you only need to read this once.
The five rules every Singapore school cares about
Shoes
White (most primary schools) or black (most secondary schools and JCs). No coloured trims, no large logos, lace-up or velcro both fine.
- Some schools strict on canvas-only or leather-only — check your school’s page.
- JCs and IP secondary schools often allow more flexibility on shoe style.
Socks
White, ankle to crew length, no visible brand logos. Plain only.
- A handful of schools designate specific suppliers — confirm before buying in bulk.
- Sports socks for PE often need to be a different colour (school colour).
Hair accessories
Hair tied back if shoulder-length or longer. Hair ties in black, dark blue, dark brown or school colour.
- No bright clips, no stickers, no glitter.
- Some schools allow neat headbands; others ban them entirely.
Watches
Plain analog or basic digital. No smartwatches in most secondary schools and below.
- Smartwatches are increasingly banned even where regular watches are allowed.
- Fitness trackers (Fitbit etc.) are usually in the same banned category.
Jewellery & accessories
Religious items permitted if worn under the uniform. Plain stud earrings only for girls (usually max one pair).
- Most schools ban rings, necklaces, bracelets.
- Nail polish almost universally banned.

What about my specific school?
