Replacement

Replacement Water Bottle

P1-P6 kids drop water bottles a lot. Stainless insulated > plastic if budget allows.

Before you shop

When (and how) to replace the water bottle

Water bottles get lost, dropped, and chipped. The right replacement depends on level: P1-P3 kids drop a lot (insulated stainless wins), Sec / JC students prioritise volume.

Signs to replace

  • Lid won't seal properly — leaks into the school bag.
  • Inner coating chipped or smelly (especially for stainless) — affects taste.
  • Cracks (especially around the base) — risk of slow leaks.
  • Lid plastic ageing / brittle — risk of breakage mid-day.

By level

  • P1-P3: 500-700ml insulated stainless. Insulated to keep water cool in SG heat. Stainless to survive the daily drops.
  • P4-P6: 700ml-1L. Same insulation logic.
  • Sec 1-4: 1L+. Larger capacity needed for active CCA days.
  • JC: 1L+ insulated. Long days, less canteen access between blocks.

What to check before buying

  • Lid type: flip-top is fast; screw-cap is more secure but slower.
  • Mouth opening: wide enough to fit ice cubes if your child likes cold water.
  • Weight when empty — kids carry water + textbooks; weight adds up.
  • BPA-free is standard — check the label.

Watch-outs

  • Plastic bottles last 6-12 months — micro-cracks form even when intact-looking.
  • Stainless bottles last 2-3 years if cared for — wash + air-dry daily.
  • Don't put hot drinks in plastic — leaches over time.

Frequently asked

  • How often should I replace?
Plastic: 6-12 months. Stainless: 2-3 years (with daily wash). Check the inside every month for smell / chip.
  • Insulated worth it?
Yes for SG heat. Water stays cool 3-4 hours — kids actually drink it. Non-insulated bottles get warm by recess.
  • Are filter / straw bottles a good idea?
Filter bottles are unnecessary for SG tap water. Straw bottles are good for active CCA kids but harder to clean.
  • What if it's lost?
Check school lost property first — happens weekly. Then replace, and name-label the new one immediately.
