When to replace school shoes

Most primary schools require plain white shoes; secondary, plain black. Kids outgrow shoes every 4-6 months at primary; every 6-12 months at secondary.

Signs it's time to replace

  • Toe room: less than a thumb's width at the front means too small.
  • Sole worn smooth — slip risk in school hall + during PE.
  • Insole pressed flat or torn — kid will start complaining about arch ache.
  • Visible cracks across the uppers (especially around the toe-bend).

School rules

  • Primary schools: plain white, no coloured trims, no large logos. Canvas or leather both fine at most.
  • Secondary schools: plain black, polishable if possible.
  • JCs: looser — most allow plain canvas in white or black.
  • A handful of schools require specific styles (lace-up only, canvas only) — check school handbook before buying.
