What Wushu CCA is like in school

Wushu blends martial arts and performance. Routine-based (taolu) with optional weapon specialisations. Performance silks are unit-supplied; training kit is on you.

Training rhythm

  • 2-3 sessions per week, 2 hours each — usually after school in the school hall or field.
  • Competes in the National School Games (NSG) — Jan to Sep season, with C / B / A Division play.
  • Peak intensity during NSG season; off-season is technical / conditioning work for wushu.

The school provides

  • Performance silks for shows.
  • Practice weapons (for assigned routines).
  • Coaching.

What parents buy

  • Soft kung-fu / Feiyue shoes.
  • Loose cotton training pants.
  • Sash.
  • Practice weapon (only after coach assigns) — broadsword, straight sword, staff or spear.

Watch-outs

  • Practice weapons are NOT toys — store securely and transport in a proper bag.
  • Some schools / event venues restrict weapon transport. Confirm before bringing.

Frequently asked

  • Does wushu compete in NSG?
Some divisions; otherwise schools enter Wushu Federation Singapore competitions.
  • What weapon should we buy?
Don't buy until the coach assigns your child's routine — weapon allocation matches the chosen taolu.
  • Is sanda (sparring) part of it?
School wushu is mostly taolu (forms). Sanda is competitive sparring; some schools offer separately.
