Rugby is a contact sport — mouthguard is non-negotiable from day one. Boots (moulded or FG studs) required. Game jersey issued; you buy training jersey, shorts, and protective gear.

What Rugby CCA is like in school
Rugby is a contact sport competing in the NSG. Mouthguard is non-negotiable from day 1. Boots and training kit are on the parent; game jersey is issued.
Training rhythm
- 2-3 sessions per week, 2 hours each — usually after school in the school hall or field.
- Competes in the National School Games (NSG) — Jan to Sep season, with C / B / A Division play.
- Peak intensity during NSG season; off-season is technical / conditioning work for rugby.
The school provides
- Game jersey + shorts.
- Tackle bags, balls, training cones.
- Coaching + physio (where available).
What parents buy
- Mouthguard (boil-and-bite minimum; custom is better for serious players).
- Rugby boots (FG studs or moulded).
- Training jersey + shorts.
- Scrum cap (optional but recommended for forwards).
- Long rugby socks × 2.
Watch-outs
- Mouthguard fitting matters — boil it properly. A loose mouthguard is worse than none.
- Avoid metal studs unless explicitly allowed — most schools require moulded or FG.
- Concussion protocols are strict — don't push back into play after a head knock.
