NCC Sea cadets train alongside Land cadets in basics but add seamanship, knot tying, and boat handling. Uniform is government-issued; kit you buy is the same as standard NCC.

What NCC Sea is like in school

NCC Sea cadets train alongside Land cadets in core NCC basics, then add a seamanship specialty — knot tying, boat handling, water safety.

Training rhythm

  • Weekly training session (2-3 hours) — same cadence as standard NCC.
  • Add-on water-based training days at the Sea unit's affiliated base.
  • Annual unit camp + opportunities for sailing / kayaking exposure.

The school / NCC provides

  • Standard NCC uniform (pixelised No. 4).
  • All water-based equipment for sailing / boat sessions.
  • All training and instructors.

What parents buy

  • Parade boots + polish kit (same as standard NCC).
  • Dri-fit PT attire × 2.
  • Quick-dry T-shirt + shorts for water-based training days.
  • Practice rope for at-home knot work.

Watch-outs

  • Water-based training requires the school's signed indemnity — submit on time.
  • Confirm whether the unit issues PFDs / wetsuits before buying personal ones.

Frequently asked

  • Can NCC Sea cadets sail competitively?
    Some can, via attachment programmes to RSYC and the Singapore Armed Forces Yacht Club. Selection is competitive.
  • Is swimming proficiency required?
    Most Sea units require basic swimming. Confirm with the teacher-in-charge before joining.
  • Same uniform as Land?
    Yes — the standard NCC No. 4 pixelised uniform. Berets and lanyards may differ.

NCC Sea kit

Same base as NCC: uniform is issued, supporting kit on you. Plus minor sea-specific items.
