What Malay Dance CCA is like in school

Malay Dance covers traditional forms — Zapin, Joget, Inang and more — competing in SYF Arts Presentation. Costumes are issued; practice kit is on the parent.

Activity rhythm

  • 2-3 sessions per week, 2 hours each — held in the dance studio or hall.
  • Heavy SYF Arts Presentation prep in March-April.
  • Performances at school events and external community shows.

The school provides

  • Performance costumes (issued for shows).
  • Rehearsal space, mirrors, sound system.
  • Choreographer + instructor.

What parents buy

  • Practice sarong / kain.
  • Long chiffon scarf (selendang).
  • Soft-soled dance shoes.
  • Plain bobby pins for hair styling.

Watch-outs

  • Sarong wrapping technique varies by form — instructor will demo.
  • Hair must be neatly styled for performance — pins matter.
