What Fencing CCA is like in school
Fencing is one of the more equipment-heavy CCAs. Schools loan the full kit (mask, jacket, plastron, glove, weapon) for new joiners. Senior fencers invest in personal glove and mask from Sec 2.
Training rhythm
- 2-3 sessions per week, 2 hours each — usually after school in the school hall or field.
- Competes in the National School Games (NSG) — Jan to Sep season, with C / B / A Division play.
- Peak intensity during NSG season; off-season is technical / conditioning work for fencing.
The school provides
- Full loan kit for first-year fencers (mask, jacket, plastron, glove, weapon).
- Pistes (strips) for training.
- Coaching.
What parents buy
- Personal fencing glove (the kit item most needed for hygiene).
- Mask (Sec 2+) — 350N rating minimum for safety.
- Indoor non-marking shoes.
- Equipment bag (long enough for weapons).
