Primary School Stationery Checklist (P1–P6)
Updated May 2025 · 4 min read
Singapore primary schools don't always give you a full stationery list before the school year starts. Here's what most students actually need, broken down by level — plus what not to overbuy.
Tip:Don't buy everything on Day 1. Start with the basics (pencils, eraser, ruler, pencil case) and add items as the school requests them.
P1 & P2 (Lower Primary)
P3 & P4 (Middle Primary)
P5 & P6 (Upper Primary)
What Not to Overbuy
- Markers and highlighters — kids tend to dry these out fast. Buy a small pack first.
- Exercise books— schools often sell their own or have specific brands. Don't bulk buy before checking.
- Fancy pencil cases — a simple zip case works better. Overstuffed cases are harder for young kids to manage.
- Coloured pens — schools often restrict these in lower primary. Stick to blue/black until told otherwise.
MOE-Approved Calculator (P5–P6)
From Primary 5, MOE allows calculators in certain maths exams. The recommended model is the Casio FX-95SG Plus— it's MOE-approved and widely available. Avoid graphing calculators or any model with computer algebra (CAS) — these are not allowed.
