OBS Camp Packing List for Secondary 3 (2025)

Updated May 2025 · 6 min read

The Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) 5-day camp on Pulau Ubin is mandatory for most Secondary 3 students. It involves kayaking, trekking, high elements, and a solo overnight. Phones are collected on Day 1. Here's what to pack — and what gets left behind by students every year.

Important: Your school will provide an official packing list 2–3 weeks before camp. Use this guide to prepare early, then cross-check against the official list.

What's NOT Allowed at OBS

  • Mobile phones — collected by OBS staff on Day 1, returned at the end
  • Electronic devices (tablets, cameras, earphones)
  • Aerosol sprays — switch to roll-on deodorant
  • Excessive snacks or outside food — all meals provided
  • Valuables — leave jewellery, watches, and cash (except a small amount) at home

Top 5 Things Parents Forget

  1. Wearing in new shoes. The #1 complaint at OBS is foot blisters from shoes that haven't been broken in. Start wearing the camp shoes 2 weeks before.
  2. Dry bag for kayaking. Without one, everything in your bag gets soaked on water activity days.
  3. Headlamp (not torchlight). Hands-free lighting is essential for night activities and cabin use.
  4. Extra ziplock bags. Pack 5–6 large ones for wet clothes, muddy gear, and general organisation.
  5. Labelling everything. OBS lost-and-found is massive. Name every item, especially clothing.
