The goal of school discipline is to help students develop S elf-discipline, e M pathy, A daptability, R espect and T enacity (SMART) through making good choices that will enable them to experience success in life. Code of Conduct and School Rules Morning Assembly Northshoreans who are Singapore Citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge. Students will take the Pledge with the right fist over the heart. Students who are not Singapore Citizens are expected to stand at attention and observe the flag-raising and pledge-taking ceremony with respect. Attendance It is compulsory for every Northshoreans to attend school. Absence from school must be supported by a medical certificate from doctors registered with the Singapore Medical Council. Students who are in school and not feeling well must inform their teacher. Late-coming Northshoreans must be punctual for all activities. Students who reach school after 7.30 a.m. are considered late. Their parents will be informed after three incidents of late-coming. From the fourth incidence of late-coming, their names will be recorded and submitted to the School Leaders. Regular late-coming will affect the students’ conduct grade at each semester. Leaving School during Curriculum Hours School hours are from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. No student is allowed to leave the school during curriculum hours without being accompanied by a parent/ guardian. Attire and Grooming Proper attire and grooming have a positive impact on the image of the school and the students. Every Northshorean must project an appropriate and well-groomed appearance and wear the school uniform with pride. Northshoreans are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the school uniform is not allowed. Students should not wear jewellery, ornaments or fashion accessories. Uniform consists of: • School T-shirt • School skirt/School shorts • School PE shorts are be worn only on days when there are PAL and/or PE lessons. • School T-shirts must be tucked out. • School skirt should be knee length. • The name tag of the student should be sewn below the school crest. • The uniform is to be worn with black shoes and white socks. Shoes must be full black (including black shoes laces). Only plain white socks or socks with the Northshore label are to be worn. Socks must be above ankle. Grooming • Students must always be neat in appearance. • Students must be clean-shaven with no facial hair. • Students are to maintain a neat hairdo; fancy hairstyles are not allowed. • No dyeing, tinting or highlighting of hair. Student with such hair will be required to dye their hair back to its original colour. • Fingernails should be trimmed and kept short. Nail polish is not allowed. Behaviour All Northshoreans are expected to demonstrate exemplary behaviour by observing the school values. They are expected to demonstrate Self-discipline, eMpathy, Adaptability, Respect to school staff, peers and school property and Tenacity. Misbehaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly. The school adopts the Restorative Approach to manage students. This approach encourages students to be accountable for their actions and empowering them to exercise better self-control and self-discipline in future. It also helps the child to recognise that we address specific behaviours as the problem, and not the child. Where necessary, the assistance of students’ parents/guardians will be sought to obtain home support for remedial action. The table below shows the list of offences. Students should not bring items that may disrupt learning or endanger others. • Students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapons. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item which can be used or intended to be used to cause harm to others. • Students are not allowed to bring electronic devices and items that may disrupt learning such as toys, games or cards to school. • Students are not allowed to bring devices to school without a written consent from the school. • Any item deemed inappropriate for school will be taken away at the teachers’ discretion. Our Mobile Device Policy All unauthorized electronic, communication, entertainment or gaming devices capable of capturing, storing, displaying and/or transmitting visual, audio or verbal information are strongly discouraged to be brought to school. Students are not allowed to take any forms of visual or audio recordings, such as photographs or videos, within the school compound and vicinity without the school’s permission. In case of emergency, parents/guardians can call the General Office at Tel: 6202 6490 if they need to contact their child/ward urgently. Students can also contact their parents/guardians, if necessary, by using the phone in the General Office. If parents / guardians need to contact their child/ward after school hours, please inform your child’s/ward’s Form Teacher or approach the General Office for the ‘Device Contract’ form. The form should be completed by the parent/guardian and acknowledged by the Form Teacher before your child/ward can bring his/her mobile device to school. The school reserves the right to confiscate and check the content of the device(s) if the student is deemed to have used the device(s) inappropriately. Students must be responsible for their own personal belongings, including their mobile devices. The school will not be held accountable for any damage or loss.
